Academic Advising
AADS takes seriously its responsibility to provide students with access to courses, research opportunities, and advisers. As partners in your academic success, the faculty and staff encourage you to take time to fully explore the information and links we have provided for you. Our faculty are committed to providing guidance and information to help undergraduate students enjoy a successful college experience. Advising is provided at the main MMC campus and virtually via zoom to meet the needs of our students. Faculty advisors are available to assist students seeking to meet all the academic requirements for the undergraduate certificate, rules and regulations set forth by the AADS department and Florida International University. They also provide counsel to students not pursuing a certificate but seeking courses related to Africa and/or the African diaspora that fulfill the requirements other undergraduate programs.
Graduate students should see the Graduate Program Director for counsel regarding graduate admission requirements, academic requirements for the graduate certificate, the M.A. program and the Combined M.A.Ph.D. Programs, as well as graduation requirements. Once graduate students have selected among the options for their exit requirement, they will be paired with a faculty mentor & they should, of course, work most closely with that individual.
