Background and Research Interests

Mariama Jaiteh is a native of The Gambia. Her research interests include the comparative study of women and human rights in Sub-Saharan Africa and the study of sex tourism in the Senegambian region of West Africa. She is the instructor of AFA 2004 Black Popular Cultures, Global Dimensions; AFA 3353 Gender and Sexualities in Sub-Saharan Context; and AFA 3339Women And Human Rights In Sub-Saharan Africa. She is also the instructor of Wolof for the African & African Diaspora Studies Program (AADS) and as such accompanies the group of students during the summer study abroad program in Senegal & The Gambia. She will soon be teaching Wolof at FIU during regular semesters.
