K-12 Book Drive in collaboration with Gambian American Foundation (GAF)

In collaboration with AADS, The Gambian American Foundation (GAF) is accepting donations of new or gently used hardback and paperback books, from levels K-12 and beyond. We are looking for all kinds of child, adolescent, and adult fiction and non-fiction books. Please, kindly drop your book donations at the African and African Diaspora Studies Program (AADS), Labor Center, third floor. For further details, please e-mail Mariama Jaiteh at mjaiteh@fiu.edu.

GAF was established to serve the people of rural and urban areas of The Gambia. GAF is engaged in supporting the Gambian Basic and Secondary Educational system, and higher education institutions. Gambian educational centers suffer from limited resources and many lack basic libraries, which limits students’ access to reading materials and delays the development of their literacy skills.

Thanks to the support of Gambian American business people, GAF will be shipping the books to The Gambia at no cost through the use of spared spaces on containers. GAF benefits from the collaboration with the Gambian Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, and with the Gambian Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.

If there is anything more you can do to help, please visit GAF’s website at www.gambianamericanfoundation.org. Thank you in advance for any donation you might be able to make.
