Pape Ndiaye Thiopet - Live in Concert
|Venue:||Knights of Columbus, 545 West 51st Place Hialeah|
Dear FIU Community,
AADS is collaborating with the Senegambian community of South Florida (through the Gambian Association of Florida) and Champion Sounds Productions to bring the rising star of Senegambian Mbalax music, Pape Thiopet, to Hialeah on September 4, 2011 (see the flyer below). This should provide an excellent opportunity to celebrate Labor Day and the beginning of the new academic year with one of our perhaps less obviously present ethnic communities.
Every year, during the Labor Day weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), the Senegambian community organizes three days of festivities generally attended by Gambian Americans and Senegalese Americans and their friends, who reside in the Miami metropolitan area and in other US cities (Atlanta, Washington DC, Seattle, …). Pape Thiopet’s concert will close this year’s celebrations of Labor Day.
Some of you, along with the students who enrolled in our Study Abroad Program in Senegal and The Gambia, will know Youssou Ndour—whom many see as the creator of Mbalax music—and his contagious music. Pape Thiopet is a newcomer who has a promising future. Check out one of his most recent musical hits by clicking on the Youtube.com window below, in between the two faces of the e-flyer. There you will see a clip from a video that has been showed on the Radio Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS). Youza is the name of the new and fashionable dance moves he has introduced with his dancers.
We have a limited number of free tickets and have negotiated reduced ticket prices for those who have an FIU ID (students, faculty, staff). Please call Ms. Rosa Henriquez at 305 348-2246 for more information.
See you on September 4th !
