NEW Call for Proposals (Fall 2015): Mini-Grant for FIU Faculty to travel to Continental Africa

The African & African Diaspora Studies Program (AADS) has mini-travel grants for FIU faculty members to travel to continental Africa for their research needs and/or to improve quality of undergraduate continental Africa-focused course contents. These mini-travel grants are made available thanks to a U.S. Department of Education Title VI-UISFL grant entitled “Expanding and Developing African Studies at FIU.” Mini-travel grant applications must be received at by midnight on October 15, 2015. Preference will be given to proposals/applications that will produce a direct positive outcome on any of the undergraduate courses that make the AADS Certificate in African Studies, either through faculty research development or specifically through quality improvement of course contents. The amount of the awards will depend upon the number of successful applications: we intend to cover the airfare of each successful application. Awards will be announced by November 1, 2015.

The application should include:
•a detailed cover letter explaining what the travel will allow, the research objectives of the research trip, the direct benefit(s) the trip will bring to FIU—particularly to AADS’s Undergraduate Certificate in African Studies—, and to the expansion and development of African studies at FIU.
•the applicant’s curriculum vitae.
•the entire trip’s budget clearly separating items such as airfare, ground transportation, lodging, and per diem.
•Indicate other possible or already awarded source(s) of funding to support this trip.
•concise budget item justifications explaining briefly each budget item.
