Sarah Labbe
Originally from Scarborough, Maine, Sarah graduated magna
cum laude from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in French and a minor in
Spanish. While living in Vermont, she volunteered with the Vermont Refugee
Resettlement Program assisting families from Africa in their transition to life
in the U.S. During the junior year, she studied culture and society in Madagascar with the School for International Training and conducted a month long intensive
field research project focused on the teaching methodology of English in the
Malagasy school system. Since graduation she has worked as an international
travel consultant, assisting French and Spanish speakers from around the world,
and most recently with the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project of Maine, an
organization dedicated to providing immigration related legal services to
low-income immigrants, refugees and political asylees, among others, living in
Maine. She is interested in national and transnational policy analysis with a
particular focus on continental Africa. After graduation she plans to work in
Francophone Africa with humanitarian aid and development organizations in the
fields of education, public health issues, and rural development.
