Dr. Dionne Stephens is Associate Chair in the Department of Psychology and ANWS affiliated faculty. She came to FIU in 2003 as Assistant Director of Research Services and Programs in the School of Public Health. She is a psychologist with specialization in human development. Dr. Stephens' research examines socio-historical factors shaping minority populations’ sexual scripting and sexual health processes, with emphasis on gender and ethnic/ racial identity development. In addition, she is interested in the constructions of "Black" identity across ethnic groups, particularly their manifestations in popular culture spaces. She is author of several articles on hip hop, sexuality, and social health.
Dr. Stephens is an award-winning teacher. She regularly offers classes on Psychology of Women, Hip Hop, Race and Ethnicity, and Urban Minorities and Public Health, among others.
