My name is Brett Bryant, and I’m a Master's student in the African and African diaspora studies program. I have a Bachelor’s in English from Purdue University, where I concentrated my studies on Black Feminist and Post-Colonial literature. At FIU, my research is focused on state sanctioned violence against Black bodies in the literature of Toni Morrison and Edwidge Danticat. I’m looking at the works of these two authors through an intersectional lense that brings together, race, gender, sexuality, nationality, class, and religious affiliation. After FIU, I hope to pursue a P.h.D in the humanities with the eventual goal being to teach at the university level.
