Welcome to African-New World Studies (ANWS) program at Florida International University. The program is committed to the study, research, interpretation, and the dissemination of knowledge concerning African peoples globally. Through our comparative, transnational, and interdisciplinary curriculum, and active outreach programs, ANWS is one of the leading centers in the United States for the study of Africana experience. We have in place a wide array of academic programs, including an MA degree in African-New World Studies, and undergraduate certificates in African and African Diaspora Studies. We will soon inaugurate a baccalaureate degree in African World Studies and a certificate in African-American Studies.

Our location in Miami- one of the major crossings of global African Diaspora movement- provides a unique environment for the study of Africa and African Diaspora. Our core and affiliated faculty, like our student body, are drawn from around the world. The result is a distinctive cast of scholars with global outlooks and specializations that range from the humanities and social sciences to environmental studies, law and social justice, health sciences, education, and international business, among others.

I invite you to explore our program's resources on this website and to contact us for more information.

Thank you,
Akin Ogundiran
