Jean-Robert Cadely, Ph.D.
Jean-Robert Cadely received his
Ph.D. from the Université du Québec à Montréal (
Dr. Cadely’s research expertise is in Linguistics with primary focus in the areas of French/Haitian Creole Phonology and Haitian Culture. He is a native speaker of Haitian Creole and one of only a handful of specialists conducting academic research in the area of Haitian Creole Phonology. He has published articles on Haitian Creole Phonology in several journals in Linguistics, including Etudes Créoles, the Canadian Journal of Linguistics, Lingua, the Journal of Haitian Studies, Cuadernos Caribeños and Antropological Linguistics. He has made important contribution in the field of Creole Linguistics and his works are quoted in several prestigious publications. Dr. Cadely’s research is also directly related to FIU’s involvement with the local Haitian community. His expertise in the area of Haitian Creole/Haitian Culture has already contributed to his editing of the State Court’s exam to evaluate Haitian Creole-English interpreters. He has participated in numerous local meetings on the subject of Creole and guest lectured on several occasions.
