AADS Welcome Back Reception
|Venue:||11200 SW 8th St. West Ballroom GC, Miami FL 33199|
AADS invites you to a Welcome Back Reception during which we will present our plans for the academic year, introduce our new students and new faculty, and simply have a good time together with AADS students, faculty, and friends. West Ballroom, Graham center, Modesto Maidique Campus, from 4:00 to 7:00pm As a reminder of the existence of our successful Study Abroad Program in Senegal and The Gambia, which will run again in the summer of 2013, and as a way to announce our sponsorship of an Alternative Break program to The Gambia, we will enjoy performances by two singers: Titi, from Senegal; and Jalex, from The Gambia.
Titi’s real name is Ndey Fatou. The name Titi was given to her as a child by her uncle. She started her career as a dancer but inspired by Youssou N'Dour she became a singer. As a dancer she appeared in music videos of Senegalese stars such as Alhagie Faye and Papa Jibi Bah. She started singing with Fatamba Kuyetah (a Guinean living in Senegal), and moved on to working with many other artists.
Jalex’s real name is Malang Touray. He was born in Bakau, on the west coast of The Gambia. His grandfather was a famous Géwël who encouraged him as a youth to pursue the Afro-Manding style of music combining his melodic singer's voice with the traditional Afro-Mandinka genre of music. He himself calls it "Afro-Afric." He is among the most popular singers in The Gambia.
