AADS Certificate Programs
AADS offers two undergraduate certificates the Certificate in African Studies and the Certificate in Global Black Studies, both of which are taught fully online or in person, and we also offer a graduate certificate. The certificate programs provide students with the opportunity to study the global, economic, cultural, and historical experiences of people of African descent from an interdisciplinary approach. They are designed to complement students’ work in the major fields of study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, while fostering greater understanding of traditionally marginalized topics.
AADS Degree Programs
The graduate programs in African & African Diaspora Studies (AADS) at Florida International University (FIU) provide the opportunity for innovative and interdisciplinary study of the peoples of Sub-Saharan Africa and their experiences, as well as the communities of the African diaspora in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Our curriculum provides one of the few truly international, multidisciplinary learning models among Africana Studies programs, departments and centers nationally.
We offer a two-year MA program, as well as combined MA/PhD degrees in AADS and International Relations, in AADS and History and in AADS and Global & Sociocultural Studies (Anthropology, Geography and Sociology). The combined MA/PhD in AADS and Global & Sociocultural Studies starts in Fall 2011.
